  • The metal used in this piece is 99.8% pure iron. Most ironwork sold as iron is in reality mild steel. For pure iron we use a specialist supplier. Iron is vulnerable to the elements. We use one of two ways to protect it. The black finish is a form of oxide formed in the heat. It is sealed in place hot quenching in oil and then wax. Our brass brushed and heat coloured finish has been sealed into place using a durable metal sealant.
