This iron Labrys pendant has been hand forged out of two parts, discreetly soldered with silver. The pendant has been oxidised black in olive oil and waxed to protect it from the elements. The Labrys has been suspended onto an adjustable leather necklace, tied with sliding barrel knots and can be worn as a choker necklace.
The design of this pendant is based on Minoan and ancient Greek double axes. The Labrys is often depicted in Minoan art in the hands of priestesses and is so associated with the female and matriarchy, an association that is also common in our time. The Labrys was also associated with male divinities such as Zeus. A common misinterpretation is that the double headed axe is a Viking weapon. There is no evidence for this in the archaeological record.
This pendant has been forged out of pure iron. The black surface colour is made oil quenching and then waxing with beeswax. This is a traditional method of protecting iron against the elements. our “About Us” section.
About the adjustable necklace:
The cord on this pendant is tied with two sliding knots. This allows the earer to decide what length to wear the necklace at. Leather is most suited for the style of the pendant, but we have other options available.
